Emani Mayo Earns Big 5 Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Davis. Gourdine Awarded All-Big 5 Honors

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Big 5 announced today that Temple guard Emani Mayo was named the 2021-22 Scholar-Athlete of the Year while graduate forward Mia Davis and freshman Aniya Gourdine were named to the All-Big 5 First and Second teams, respectively.
Mayo, a graduate student pursuing a degree in started in Marketing Research + Insights, achieved a GPA of 4.0 during the fall 2021 semester while starting in 24 games for the Owls. Mayo played in 27 games for the Cherry & White, averaging 4.3 points per game and 2.3 rebounds per game.
Davis, who became the program's all-time leading scorer this past season, led the team and the American Athletic Conference in points per game (18.8). Davis started in all 28 games for TU, recording six double-doubles while leading the team in rebounding to become just the third player in Temple history to grab 1,000 career rebounds. A native of Baltimore, Md., she was also named to the All-AAC First Team as a unanimous selection as well as a WBCA All-America Honorable Mention.
Gourdine enjoyed a historic freshman season for the Owls as she became the first player in program history to record a triple-double, accomplishing the feat in a home win over East Carolina. A few games later, Gourdine did it again, posting 11 points, 10 assists, and 15 rebounds against Tulsa. Gourdine's performances landed her a spot on the All-AAC Freshman Team as well.
Villanova's Maddy Siegrist took home the Big 5's Player of the Year award while her head coach Denise Dillon was named Coach of the Year.
