Men's Crew Aims To Defend Title At Dad Vail Regatta
5.12.22 | Men's Crew
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's crew team gets on the water at the Schuylkill River for the final time this season as the team competes at the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14.
The team will attempt to repeat last season's success as the Cherry & White made school history, winning its first-ever Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta's Men's Points Trophy. The Owls earned six medals, including three gold, in its nine entries to secure the title. In the final men's event, senior Lasse Grimmer stroked the 10th-ranked and unbeaten Owls' varsity eight to a gold medal, and record 22nd title in the event. This year, Temple aims for back-to-back men's heavyweight eight titles for the first time since 2003-04.
The Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta will be live streamed so spectators will be able to follow the action at the most prestigious intercollegiate rowing event in the country. The live stream can be viewed here.
The Owls will race in five events this weekend, fielding four eights and one four.Â
"I think that we are finding our legs just in time for this Championship," head coach Brian Perkins said. "After some fits and starts this season, our inconsistent bursts of speed are becoming a bit more consistent. Here's hoping for fast times and great racing."
For Friday, races start at 9:18am with the freshman eight boat getting the festivities started. The Owls' 21st ranked varsity eight boat is the penultimate race for Temple as the boats hit the water at 12:48pm before the third varsity eight concludes the day at 1:48pm.
Live racing results will be tweeted from @Temple_MCrew.
