Men's Crew Finishes Season at IRA Championships
6.5.22 | Men's Crew
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The Temple men's crew team was forced into lineup changes in advance of the IRA Championships, but TUMC finished the season placing all three of its varsity eight boats in the top-18 nationally at Mercer Lake. The finishes mark the second-best result in school history.
Third Varsity Eight
> The third varsity eight began the day for the Owls, racing to a second-place finish in the third final. The Cherry & White finished with a time of 06:16.57, edging out Oregon State by 1.244 seconds. The 3V8 missed out on first-place by 2.95 seconds, finishing the day placing 14th nationally.
Second Varsity Eight
> Hitting the water next, the second varsity eight boat clocked a time of 06:15.88 in the third final. Racing in The Marguerite, the Cherry & White placed 18th nationally.
Varsity Eight
> Lastly, the varsity eight recorded a time of 06:04.70 in the third final to take fifth-place. The Owls finished 3.916 seconds faster than Columbia to take 17th nationally.
Quotable
> I'm very proud of the squad and their performance this weekend. This was the youngest championship team that I have ever had. The IRA training group only had six seniors and four Juniors," head coach Brian Perkins said. "We finished 17th in the nation, and we earned that placement. But with hard racing we were just .9 seconds out of 12th place (or better!). That is the intensity and level of racing required at this national championship. And now I am happy to see that our younger brothers are already looking forward to this fight in 2023. For their last piece, the seniors have left Temple Crew better than they found it. That's all we can ask. But for these underclassmen, I can not wait for the fall and the start of the 2022-23 campaign. Preparation begins now!"
