Women’s Soccer Falls to Binghamton In First Road Test, 2-0

8.21.22 | Women's Soccer

VESTAL, N.Y. – Temple women's soccer (0-1-1) fell to Binghamton (1-1-0), 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in their first road match of the year. Despite holding the offensive momentum in the first half, the Bearcats stayed composed, netting two goals in the second half to earn the win.

How It Happened

  • The Owls came out of the gate with energy, channeling their momentum to the attacking third of the field. The Cherry and White outshot the Bearcats six to two in the first half, fielding attempts from Lauren SanFelice, Aurrianna Parker, Emily Kavanaugh and Eliza David.

  • One of the most notable attempts was a fast break opportunity sparked by Roisin McGovern, who led a streaking Carly Steinberg up the wing. Steinberg sent a cross into the box as Sumaya Togba raced to convert, but Bearcat keeper, Nicole Scott made the interception, halting the scoring attempt.

  • Binghamton wasted no time as they entered the second half, notching the go-ahead goal just 40 seconds into play as Molly McLelland sent a cross into the head of Maya Anand and past the hands of Kyla Burns

  • The Owls looked to answer back just 10 minutes later, getting back-to-back attempts during a scramble inside the box, but the Bearcat defense successfully cleared the chaos to keep the Owls scoreless.

  • Binghamton continued their offensive pressure, breaking through again in the 66th minute when Olivia McKnight snuck a ball across the goal line to advance the lead to two.

  • The Owls fought tirelessly for the remainder of the 90 minutes, but despite their attempts, Binghamton goalkeeper Kaitlyn Williams stood strong to post the shutout.

From the Coach
"Today was an example of why it is so important to capitalize on opportunities when you create them," head coach Nick Bochette said. "Our first half performance showed that we have the ability to consistently create those chances, but moving forward we need to have that killer instinct to convert in order to get the outcome that we want."

Up Next

The Owls will return to Philadelphia for their next contest, traveling to city foe, Penn on Friday, Aug. 26. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and will serve as the Quakers season opener.
