Women’s Soccer Records Draw Against Penn, 0-0
8.26.22 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer (0-1-2) recorded their second draw of the season on Friday evening after posting a 0-0 finish against city rival, Penn (0-0-1) on the road. A competitive first half push from the Quakers was countered by a second half offensive burst from the Owls, but despite the back-and-forth battle, the match ended in a deadlock.
How it Happened
From the Coach
"I'm really happy with our response in the second half," head coach Nick Bochette said. "Our defense and Kyla were called upon a lot in the first 45 minutes and they really did an incredible job. These were some real, competitive, high-pressure minutes against a talented Penn team, and for Kyla to keep a clean slate to continuously give our offense the opportunity to attack was extremely impressive."

How it Happened
- Penn entered the game exerting offensive pressure immediately, but keeper Kyla Burns headlined the first half defensive efforts for the Owls, recording five saves on nine shots, including a 17th minute diving save to keep the game neutral.
- Just three minutes later, Burns made yet another stop, but a deflection back into the box allowed Penn another attempt on goal. Graduate transfer Katie Coritz came up big for the Cherry and White, making a sliding block on the goal-line to stop Penn's closest attempt of the night.
- After the 30th minute, the Owls began to shift the momentum, creating runs in the attacking third, but with time ticking down on the clock, the first half came to a close, remaining scoreless.
- The Cherry and White carried their momentum into the second half, controlling possession to get valuable touches and opportinities from multiple players.
- Lauren SanFelice kickstarted a string of Owl shots in the 57th minute after sending a rocket from long-range. Quaker keeper Laurence Gladu leaped for the ball, getting a glove on it just in time to send it over the crossbar.
- Another strong Owl attempt came in the 76th minute as a streaking Emily Kavanaugh chased a leading pass into the box. With just one step to go, Gladu rushed out to secure the ball and stop the scoring attempt.
- Both teams pushed the pace, attempting to create a last-minute opportunity, but ultimately could not break through, resulting in a 0-0 tie at the conclusion of the 90 minutes.
