The Owls
History
The matchup between the Owls and the Scarlet Knights marks the seventh time the teams have met in program history with a contest record of 1-3-2. The teams' last meeting came in 2013, where the Owls dropped to Rutgers, 2-0. Prior to 2013, the teams had not met since 2005 in the season opener for both the Owls and the Scarlet Knights.
The Owls
- The Owls recorded their second draw of 2022 after earning the 0-0 tie against Penn on Friday night. Goalkeeper Kyla Burns had a standout performance, grabbing five saves to keep the game scoreless. Burns was awarded AAC Weekly Honor Roll recognition, the first conference award of her career, for her efforts.
- Emily Kavanaugh notched the lone goal of 2022 thus far, after netting a header in the 63rd minute of the Maryland matchup off a goalie deflection. Kavanaugh is no stranger around the net, having a breakout season last year. The standout forward led the team in both goals and points over the course of 16-games, netting seven goals, while adding an assist to finish the year with 15 points. Her 15-point performance proved to be enough to earn First Team All-Conference honors at the conclusion of the season and Preseason All-Conference honors this year.
- Despite a seven save performance from goalkeeper Kamryn Stablein against Maryland, the match ended in a 1-1 deadlock, and Stablein faced an injury during play, sidelining her temporarily to allow Burns to step into the role.
- The match against Rutgers serves as fifth matchup of the year for the ninth ranked Scarlet Knights, who have maintained a perfect record thus far, going 4-0-0.
- Last year, Rutgers posted a 19-4-2 record which included a 13-2-2 home performance. A 10-0-0 showing in conference play proved to be enough to clinch the regular season title, but Rutgers ultimately fell in the Big Ten Championship to No. 13 Michigan, 1-0.
- The Scarlet Knights have a dynamic lineup, showcasing multiple offensive forces this year. Eight student-athletes have netted at least one goal already this season. Allison Lowrey has led the charge, netting three goals and adding two assists for a team-high, eight points.
- Riley Tiernan follows close behind with three assists and one goal for five points. Last year, Tiernan had a breakout freshman season, earning First Team All-Region, Big Ten First Team and Big Ten All-Freshman honors.
- Meagan Mclelland has clocked 350 minutes in goal, only allowing two goals for a .750 save percentage.
