Golf Moves to Sixth After Second Day at GolfWeek Fall Challenge

9.12.22 | Men's Golf

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Ethan Whitney was one of three Temple golfers to shoot under-par Monday as the Owls improved eight stokes from their first round to move up to sixth in the 13-team field at the GolfWeek Fall Challenge.  Whitney shot a five-under 67 to tie for the second-best round among the 75 golfers competing at the three-day tournament held at the 6,926-yard par 72 True Blue Golf Course.

Conor McGrath shot a two-under 70 on the day and leads the Owls and is tied for sixth with a six-under 138.  Also shooting under par was Graham Chase, who carded a one-under 71 on the day.

Recapping the Day
> Whitney, who posted his career best score of 66 on the second round of last year's GolfWeek Fall Challenge, made seven birdies on the day.  He was on fire over the final 10 holes, making five birdies while parring the other five holes.  He is now tied for 15th with a three-under 141.
> McGrath birdied four of five holes starting with the sixth hole, but a double-bogey on the 18th, his only blemish on the day, pushed him out of a second straight round in the 60s.
> Like McGrath, Chase was playing at four-under following birdies at holes, 5, 8, 10 and 15.  He then had his only bad hole at the 16th where he triple-bogeyed the par-3 hole to finish with a 71.  He is now tied for 34th with a one-over 145.
> Joey Morganti had his second straight three-over 75 and is now tied for 57th while Jake Naese, who carded a 79, rounded out the field.
>Playing as individuals, Andrew Curran shot a 74 and true freshman Darren Nolan finished with a 77 on the day.

The Field
> Jacksonville State at 18-under leads Presbyterian (-16) by two strokes after the second day.   Samford and Wright State are five strokes off the pace at 13-under.  The Owls are 16 strokes off the lead at two-under.
> Temple tees off at 8:30 am from hole 1 Tuesday for its final round.
