Field Hockey Ranked No. 24 in NFHCA Poll

9.20.22 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - After seeing its best start to the season since 1984, the Temple field hockey team enters the rankings at No. 24. This is the first time since the Owls have cracked the rankings since Nov. 16, 2014, when the team finished the season at No. 16.

The Cherry and White is 7-1 (1-0 BIG EAST) for the first time in almost 30 years, with its lone loss coming at No. 10 Virginia in the second weekend of the season. Temple has been dominant on both sides of the ball, scoring 27 goals and allowing just eight. Twelve Owls have recorded a goal so far this season, with Julianne Koepc's five leading the team. The team's scoring average (3.38) is seventh in the nation, while its 2.50 scoring margin is sixth.

The Owls' defense has been outstanding, ranking fourth in the NCAA in shutouts (four) and in GAA (0.88). Molly Frey has led the defensive effort from the cage, with her 0.88 GAA ranking fourth in the nation. Her win-loss percentage of 0.875 is fifth while her save percentage of 0.750 is 20th. The team has posted three defensive saves to rank 10th in the NCAA, with Nienke Oerlemans posting two and McKenna Burkhardt posting one.

The Owls will return to the pitch Friday afternoon for more BIG EAST action, facing Villanova on the road before returning to North Broad to begin a four-game homestand against Penn on Sunday afternoon.
