Men’s Soccer Opens Road Conference Schedule Against USF

9.22.22 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's soccer team (2-3-2, 0-1-0 AAC) will open the road portion of the conference slate as the Owls travel to face the USF Bulls (1-3-2) on Saturday. This will only be the second road game of the season for the Cherry and White. Six of Temple's first seven games have been home fixtures.

THE OWL POST
> Mike Eijgendaal has five assists this season. He is tied for AAC lead in total helpers. He is also 22nd in the nation in assists per match (.71) and 10th in total assists.
> Mike Eijgendaal, Yann Kouemi, and Sawyer Koza are tied for the team lead in goals (2).
> Three players on the roster have topped over 500 minutes. Draven Barnett leads the Owls with 614 minutes. Elyad Shojaei ranks second on the roster with 536, Eijgendaal comes in third with 522 minutes played.
> Temple's freshmen have played a critical role thus far in the season. In addition to Barnett, Sawyer Koza has also made a large impact. The Pennsylvania native was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll and was also named Philly Soccer Six Rookie of the Week after scoring twice last week against Saint Peter's.

SCOUTING USF
> USF earned a 6-7-1 record in 2021. The Bulls struggled early in the year, winning only two of their first nine games, including dropping their first four AAC battles. South Florida turned it around later in the year, going 4-1-1 in its last six matches including possibly the match of the year in the American, defeating UCF 4-3 in overtime in the War on I-4.
> The Bulls are 1-3-2 on the year. Despite the poor record on the surface, all three losses are against high major programs with two against top 25 teams (No. 24 North Carolina and No. 2 Washington). Last match, USF tied Florida Atlantic 1-1 in FAU's first-ever match as a member of the AAC.
> USF returns two All-AAC selections from last season in Shion Soga and Salvatore Mazzaferro. Soga was voted First Team All-AAC, while Mazzaferro was named Second Team All-AAC. Both were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team. The Bulls have only scored three goals on the year, with Alex Sannes scoring two of them.
> Bob Butehorn leads USF in his sixth season. He is 34-37-11 during his time in Tampa. In 2019, he led the Bulls to the NCAA tournament.

SERIES HISTORY vs. USF
> Temple and USF have shared membership in the American since 2013.
> The Owls are 3-8-1 against South Florida all-time.
> Last year, the two met twice in a home-and-home series. USF won both matches.
