9.22.22 | Women's Cross Country
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's cross country team, coming off a win at the Fordham Fiasco on Sept. 10, takes to the air, traveling to Minnesota to compete in the 36th Roy Griak Invitational on Friday, Sept. 23. The race, being held at the 6k Les Bolstad Golf Course, begins at 12:15 pm ET.
Previewing the Owls
"The Roy Griak Invitational is a high caliber meet and will be a great opportunity for our women's team to compete against a number of nationally-ranked programs.
Although we have a smaller squad competing tomorrow that doesn't change my expectations for the team.
The gap in our schedule last weekend allowed us to get a quality week of training in which should benefit us going into the Griak. The ladies are excited to travel and I'm excited to see them run to their potential while competing against some of the top teams in the nation."
Previewing the Owls
- Freshman Elvira Bredin has led the team in each of its first two competitions, winning the Fordham Fiasco for her first collegiate victory.
- Junior Laura Nicholson placed fourth overall at Fordham in her first race of the season while freshman Michelle Frowijn placed in the top 10 for a second straight week with a sixth-place finish.
- Emily Schuler (8th) and Cat Shontz (9th) rounded out the team's scorers with top 10 overall finishes.
- Temple will be one of 22 schools competing at the Griak Invitational. The Owls are joined by Cal Baptist, Colorado State, Wichita State, Iowa State, Michigan State, Santa Clara, Wyoming, Ohio State, Delaware, Utah, Minnesota, Idaho, UNLV, St. Thomas, Miami (FL), Wisconsin, NDSU, Nevada, UND, SDSU, and Manitoba.
- The Invitational is named after legendary University of Minnesota coach Roy Griak, who passed away in 2015 mark following 51 years of service to the University. Griak served as the head coach of the Minnesota men's cross country team from 1963-1996 and led the Gophers to three Big Ten titles (two cross country, one track & field).
