Women’s Soccer Records Draw Against Rider
9.3.22 | Women's Soccer
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Temple women's soccer (0-2-3) recorded a draw against Rider (3-1-1) on Saturday evening in a back-and-forth battle. A seven-save performance by Kyla Burns proved to be enough to keep the Broncs scoreless and end the match in a deadlock.
How it Happened
From the Coach
"We've seen a lot of growth and made a lot of adjustments this season, but at the end of the day, it's frustrating to not put the ball in the net," head coach Nick Bochette said. "But we know that we are not far off from turning the corner. We have been working to have exactly what we need ready by conference play. That's not to say that we don't want to come home with these quality wins, but we've made strides in how were approaching every game and we are very optimistic for the future."

How it Happened
- The Owls and the Broncs entered the first half with aggression, splitting possession in the opening minutes.
- The Cherry and White made a break just 16 minutes into play as Gabi Johnson kickstarted a run into the attacking third. Johnson sent the ball to a streaking Alexa Swetz on the outside wing who crossed the ball into the box, but the Owls fell just short of the conversion.
- Temple continued to exert offensive pressure, outshooting the Broncs 9-4 in the first half, but a four-save performance from Rider goalkeeper, Ellie Sciancalepore was enough to keep the match neutral.
- As the match resumed, both teams looked to break the deadlock, with the Broncs finding an opening in the 65th minute. Goalkeeper Kyla Burns wasted no time as Rider snuck through the backline, coming out of the net to make a sliding stop and halt the Rider break.
- Temple answered back just 10 minutes later as Lauren SanFelice created an opportunity of her own, sending a rocket from outside the box that sailed just high of the crossbar.
- The Owls continued to push the pace, getting another opportunity in the 87th minute on a run from Sumaya Togba. Togba sent the cross in from the right wing, but it wouldn't be enough for the Owls to convert, ending the match in a 0-0 draw.
