Volleyball Travels To New York for Second-Straight Weekend

The Owls will play three matches at the Cornell Tournament
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple Owls Volleyball team will be on the road for the second-straight week in the state of New York as they three matches this weekend at the Cornell Tournament in Ithaca, N.Y. with matches slated against UAlbany, Colgate and the Cornell. The Owls will play one match on Friday versus UAlbany at 5 p.m. ET and play a pair of matches on Saturday versus Colgate at 1 p.m. and Cornell at 7 p.m. Â All matches this weekend will be shown on the ESPN+ platform.

- Last weekend during the Black Knight Invitational, Temple fell to No. 20 Kansas (0-3) on Friday and won the pair of matches versus Army (3-1) and St. Francis (Brooklyn) (3-2) to improve to 3-2 on the young season.
- Cornell comes out of their opening weekend with a 2-1 overall record after the Kent State Invitational. The Big Red opened the season with an 0-3 loss to Oakland, but bounced back to defeat Kent State and Southern Indiana by the score of 3-1.
- UAlbany is 0-6 to start the 2022 season. The Great Danes fell to Michigan State and VCU by the score 0-3 on Friday of the first day of the Kristen Dickmann Invite and then fell to Navy, 1-3.
- Last weekend at the NC State Tournament the Raiders knocked off Elon 3-0, but lost to NC State, 0-3. The next day, Colgate came away with a win versus Tennessee in four sets, 3-1.
- Temple is off to a 3-2 start this season. Just last week as it fell to No. 20 Kansas, 0-3, on the first day of the Black Knight Invitational, but rebounded to defeat Army in four sets and St. Francis (Brooklyn) in five sets.
- All-Black Knight Invitational selection Taylor Davenport either tied or led the team in kills in all three matches. Through four matches this season, Davenport recorded 32 putaways, but in the final two matches of the Black Knight Invite, she recorded back-to-back career-highs with 20 and then 27 kills.
- Additionally, Davenport averaged 4.42 kills/set and tallied 10 blocks. In three of her last four matches the sophomore outside hitter has recorded a new career high of 17 kills versus Delaware, 20 versus Army, and then 27 versus St. Francis Brooklyn. Her 4.35 points/set and 79 kills are sixth best in the AAC.
- Sophomore Patrycja Zielinska has led the Temple offense this season to a 3-2 overall record. A season ago, Zielinska recorded 827 assists in 31 matches. In 2022, the Francizkow, Poland native has dished out 200 assists already. Last week versus St. Francis (Brooklyn), Zielinska guided the Owls to a five-set win with a career-high 57 assists.
- Junior tranfer Jelena Prolic has been key to the offense, tallying double-digit kills in four of five matches. Prolic is second on the team with 64 kills and had a career-high 19 putaways versus Delaware on Aug. 26.
- Just last weekend versus Army, Chudear Tut was big in the four-set victory as she recorded 12 kills, her first double-digit kill match in a Owls uniform.
- Sophomore libero Falanika Danielson has recorded 70 digs already in 2022, while averaging 3.50 digs/set, good for eighth in the AAC. The Ewa Beach, Hawaii native set a season-high in digs in the five-set win versus St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday night as she recorded 21, marking the15th time in career Danielson achieved this mark.Â
- The Great Danes have four players with 39 or more kills in 2022. Alexa Harris leads the team with 67, while Anna Myhal and Shynelle Woroniuk have 49 and 46, respectively.
- Sadie Brown has 39 kills and is hitting .318 on the season.Harris and Brown are amongst the America East Conference leaders in a number of categories. Harris is tied for fourth in the conference with eight services aces and third with kills (67) and kills per set (3.19).
- The Great Danes and Owls have met on the volleyball court six times with UAlbany leading the all-time series with a 5-1 record. The first meeting occurred in 2004 and the last matchup took place in 2017.
- Setter Julia Kurowski was named the Patriot League Player Week after helping the Raiders to 2-1 record at the NC State Tournament. Kurowski averaged 5.11, assists, 2.22 digs, and 1.33 kills per set. In four-set win against Tennessee, Kurowski finished with 21 assists and 10 digs, her third double-double of the season. Kurowski In total last weekend, Kurowski dished out 46 assists, moving to second all time in the Colgate record book with 3,627 assists.
- This will be the fifth meeting between the two schools in the all-time matchup. The series is tied, 2-2, with the first match taking place in 1990. Most recently, the Raiders defeated Temple in three-straight sets.
- Freshman Eliza Konvicka earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors last weekend as the Big Red went 2-1 with a pair of wins over Kent State and Southern Indiana. In her debut weekend at the Kent State Invitational, Konvicka notched 28 kills, three assists, four aces, six blocks, and 25 digs.
- This will also be the fifth meeting between the two schools in the all-time matchup. The two programs haven't met since the turn of the century. 1986 was the year the series started, but it was 2000 when the two programs last met on the volleyball court. The series is tied 2-2.
