Caranda Perea Notches Season-High as Women’s Basketball Falls to ECU

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team stumbled against the ECU Pirates, 72-51. The game featured a crowd of over 3090 consisting mostly of school children from the Philadelphia metro area in attendance. Owls forward Caranda Perea secured a season-high 11 points.
 
Danae McNeal scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Pirates.
 
First Quarter: Temple 17, East Carolina 21
> The two teams came flying out of the gate. Both sides shot over 50% in the first frame.
> Neither side missed much early, with the Pirates taking a 12-11 advantage after the first media timeout.
> Temple and ECU continued to trade buckets until it was tied at 17, the Pirates ended the quarter with four straight points to take a 21-17 lead going into halftime.
> Perea led the Owls in scoring with six points.
 
Second Quarter: Temple 28, East Carolina 38
> ECU quickly extended its lead to nine to force a Temple timeout (28-19, ECU).
> The Owls countered with a quick 5-0 run featuring a three pointer from Tarriyonna Gary and a fastbreak layup from Jasha Clinton. ECU called a timeout with 5:10 remaining in the half.
> The Pirates scored 10 of the final 14 points of the half to take a 10 point lead into the break (38-28).
> Seven different players representing East Carolina scored the basketball.

Third Quarter: Temple 39, East Carolina 63
> The Pirates opened the second half on a 17-0 run.
> Temple scored 11 of the last 17 points in the quarter. Forwards Perea and Ines Piper combined for all 11 of Temple's points.

Fourth Quarter: Temple 51, East Carolina 72
> The final quarter was slow in terms of scoring. Only 21 combined points were scored.
> With the final bucket of the game, freshman Kourtney Wilson scored her first career basket with a three pointer.
> Temple won the fourth frame by a score of 12-9.
 
Games Notes
> Perea set a new benchmark for the season in points (11).
> Wilson's bucket was the first of her career. She also set a new season-high in minutes.
> Temple held ECU to 0-7 and no points during the last 4:47 of play.
