Gary Scores 19 as Women’s Basketball Drops to Tulsa

Philadelphia – The Temple women's basketball team (7-10, 2-3) fell to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (15-3, 5-0), 69-57. Shooting guard Tarriyonna Gary starred, scoring 19 points and hitting 5-8 from beyond the arc.
With the win, Tulsa is now tied for first place in the American Athletic Conference with South Florida.
First Quarter: Temple 4, Tulsa 24
> The game got off to a slow start for Temple. Tulsa started getting hot at the 6-minute mark, going 4/5 from the field entering the first media timeout. The Golden Hurricane ended the first with a 13-0 run.
> The Owls trailed by 20 ending the first quarter 24-4.
> Ines Piper put the first two points on the board for the Owls, followed by a jumper made by Caranda Perea.
Second Quarter: Temple 17, Tulsa 41
> Temple opened the second quarter with stifling defense, allowing just one basket in the first four minutes.
> Gary hit a three-pointer and Jalynn Holmes followed up with a jumper to put the Owls at 14.
> Aleah Nelson shot the first free throw of the game for the Owls and made one of two deep in the second quarter.
> Tariyonna Gary with a layup under the basket to put the Owls at 17 at the half.
Third Quarter: Temple 35, Tulsa 53
> Temple again came out strong on the defensive end. The Owls did not allow a single point for the first 4:30 of the half.
> Tiarra East was good for a pair of free throws followed by a jumper the next play at the 4:38 mark of the third quarter. She led the charge with 10 points as the Owls outscored the Golden Hurricane 18-12 in the third.
> East led all players with 10 points in the third quarter, going 4-4 from the line.
Fourth Quarter: Temple 57, Tulsa 69
> Tariyonna Gary hit a three for the Owls to open up the third quarter. It was the first of four she would hit in the final frame.
> Temple made several attempts to cut into the lead, taking the margin down to 15 several times, but the Golden Hurricane had a counter at every turn.
> Aleah Nelson cut the lead to 12 for the Owls with 44.1 seconds left of the game
> The Cherry & White made one final push, but it was too little too late for the Owls. Tulsa won by a score of 69-57.
Game Notes
> Gary led all scorers, finding the basket for 19 points with five threes. This is the most Gary has scored since Villanova, when she set a career-best 23.
> Tulsa had four different players in double figures.
> The Owls set a season-high in steals with 12 and committed a season-low in turnovers (9).
