Women’s Basketball Hits the Road to Battle RV USF on ESPNU

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team (6-7, 1-0 AAC) will head to Tampa to face preseason conference favorite South Florida Tuesday. This matchup will open the road portion of the conference slate for the Owls. The game will be nationally broadcast on ESPNU.

LAST TIME OUT: Memphis 69 @ Temple 80
> Temple took the conference opener against the visiting Memphis Tigers, 80-69. It was TU's highest scoring output since 3/2/21, also against the Tigers.
> Temple rode a 30-11 second quarter to take an 11 point at halftime. The Owls were leading by as many as 21 points in the third quarter.
> Aleah Nelson led the team in scoring, rebounds, and assists with 20, 8, and 6, respectively.

THE OWLS
> Nelson continues to be an elite offensive weapon in the American Athletic Conference. She ranks third in the AAC in scoring (15.8 ppg) and second in assists (4.62 apg). Nelson is one of two players this in the nation this season to register a stat line of at least 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in a game without committing a turnover.
> Tiarra East is second in the team in scoring with 12.0 ppg. She has scored in double figures in five of the last six games. The wing leads the lead in rebounding (6.1 rpg).
> Guard Jasha Clinton ranks third on the team in scoring with 11.3 points per game. She scored 17 points against Memphis, following up a 16-point performance in the previous game against Ole Miss. The Virginia Beach, Va. native had one of the most efficient games of her career, going 7-11 from the field.
> Tarriyonna Gary continues to be a threat from outside. She ranks third in the American in three point shooting percentage (.391). The shooting guard is averaging 9.5 points per game.

SCOUTING SOUTH FLORIDA
> South Florida has made the NCAA tournament in each of the last two seasons, and in six of the last eight years. Last season the Bulls earned a 24-9 record and an at-large bid to the tournament where they fell to the Miami Hurricanes in the first round.
> USF is again looking like a top team. The team currently sits at 12-4, with a 2-4 record against ranked opponents. In their last three games, the Bulls took No. 3 Ohio State down to the wire, 88-86, defeated No. 17 Arkansas, 66-65, and took the victory at Tulane 69-61.
> The Bulls feature a trio of the best players in the conference. Preseason Player of the Year Elena Tsineke leads the AAC in scoring with 17.1 ppg. She is immediately followed by Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu with 17.0 ppg and is also tied for the lead in rebounds with 12.0 per contest. Sammie Puisis rounds out USF's big three with 15.5 point per game.
> Jose Fernandez is one of the longest tenured coaches in women's college basketball, as he moves through season 23 in Tampa. He is 429-289 in his coaching tenure.

 SERIES HISTORY
> Temple and South Florida have played each other every season since Temple joined the AAC in 2013. Temple has a 3-16 record against USF.
> Last season the Cherry & White played the Bulls down to the wire in both meetings. In the first matchup in Tampa, Mia Davis hit a layup with :07 seconds left to force overtime. South Florida took the game, 75-67.
> The Cherry & White last claimed victory in January, 2020, winning 69-66.
