Women’s Basketball Falls on the Road to RV. South Florida

Tampa, Fl. – The Temple women's basketball team fell at RV. South Florida, 77-55 on Tuesday night. The Owls kept in close in the first half, only trailing at the break by three points, but the Cherry & White could not overcome 27 points from AAC Preseason Player of the Year Elena Tsineke.
First Quarter: Temple 16, USF 15
> The two sides came out trading buckets. Denise Solis scored five of the first eight points for Temple, including knocking down her first career three. The game was tied at eight all.
> The Bulls scored the next seven points to jump out to a 15-8 lead.
> TU countered with an 8-0 run, hitting four straight two point buckets to take the lead into the first quarter break.
> Solis' five points led the Owls in quarter one.
Second Quarter: Temple 30, USF 33
> South Florida regained the lead with back-to-back buckets to start the half (20-16, USF). The Cherry & White quickly fired back, using a three from Aleah Nelson and free throws from Jasha Clinton (21-20, TU).
> USF got out to a 25-21 lead, before the Owls scored seven straight points to get back in front, 28-25.
> The Bulls had one more counterpunch in the half, scoring eight in a row of their own to jump out to a 33-28 lead. Gourdine found the hoop for a layup as time expired.
> Nelson led all scorers in the second quarter with six points. She also paced the Owls in the half in terms of scoring with nine. Gourdine scored six points and grabbed five rebounds.
Third Quarter: Temple 46, USF 59
> The third frame opened up with a three pointer from Tarryionna Gary to tie things at 33. USF scored the next seven points (40-33, USF).
> The Owls scored two of the next three buckets to trim the lead back to five before the Bulls got hot again. South Florida outscored Temple 12-2 in the next 3:30 (52-39).
> USF won the quarter by a score of 26-16.
> Memphis went on a quick 6-0 run due to a Temple TO, but a Gourdine driving layup with 1:36 remaining was the first of two Temple baskets to close out the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Temple 55, USF 77
> Tiarra East and Clinton scored two of the first three buckets in the final frame.
> The Bulls stayed hot in the fourth, ripping off a 10-2 run.
> Neither team shot well in the fourth, with the final score coming to South Florida 77, Temple 55.
Games Notes
> Clinton scored in double-figures for the third straight game. The guard has now scored at least 12 in five of the last six games.
> Freshman Kourtney Wilson saw action for the third time in her career.
> Solis' three pointer to open the game was the first of her career.
