Clinton and Nelson Star as Women’s Basketball Defeats Cincinnati, 77-73

CINCINNATI – The Temple women's basketball team downed the Cincinnati Bearcats on the road, 77-73. Guards Jasha Clinton and Aleah Nelson both scored over 20 points, with Clinton setting a new career benchmark of 28 points. Wing Tiarra East also put up her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
 
A'riel Jackson led the Bearcats with 19 points, going 8-9 from the line.
 
First Quarter: Temple 13, Cincinnati 15
> The game started out slow. The team combined to shoot 4-18 from the field in the first five minutes.
> The Bearcats got out to a seven-point lead early (14-7).
> TU got hot as the quarter ran out. Temple ended the quarter on a 6-1 run, including five points from Nelson.
> Nelson scored 10 of Temple's 13 points in the first frame.
 
Second Quarter: Temple 33, Cincinnati 26
> After just eight combined points in the first four minutes of the quarter, Temple went on a 7-0 run in one minute of play to build a 25-18 lead going into the under-five media timeout.
> The Cherry & White stayed hot, powered by fantastic play from Clinton. The Owls built their lead up to as many as 11 points. 
> Temple outscored Cincinnati 20-11 in the second quarter. Clinton outscored the entire Cincinnati roster with 13 points. Brittany Garner also impressed with four rebounds.

Third Quarter: Temple 55, Cincinnati 48
> The Owls scored four points right out of the gate to force an early timeout by the Bearcats.
> Cincinnati could not stop the Owls offense, as Temple continued to pour on the points. TU shot for 7-11 in the first six minutes of the frame (48-39, TU).
> The teams traded baskets, with Cincinnati scoring six of the last eight in the quarter to cut the lead to seven.
> Denise Solis led all scorers in the quarter with six. 

Fourth Quarter: Temple 77, Cincinnati 77
> The final quarter featured 49 combined points, one of the highest scoring quarters this season in a Temple game.  
> Cincinnati cut the lead down to as little two points with 5:32 left on the clock (63-61).
> With the lead at three points (70-67, TU) East hit a clutch three pointer and Garner scored an impressive post layup to give Temple an eight point cushion and seal the game.
 
Games Notes
> Clinton's 28 points best her previous career-high of 24.
> Garner set a new season-high in rebounds (6) and tied her career-high in blocks (4).
> Temple as a team set a new season-high in blocks with 10.
> East tied her career-high in assists (4), and secured her second-career double-double.
> The Owls tied for their season-high in assists with 20.
