Women’s Basketball Looks to Bounce Back at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI – The Temple women's basketball team (6-8, 1-1 AAC) continues its two-game road trip with a trip to Cincinnati (7-7,0-1 AAC). The Owls will look to bounce back after falling to South Florida on Tuesday.
LAST TIME OUT: Temple 55 @ RV South Florida 77
> The Cherry & White fell to the South Florida Bulls 77-55 Tuesday afternoon in Tampa.
> The game was close throughout the first half, with Temple leading at several times. USF pulled away in the second half.
> Jasha Clinton led the Owls with 14 points.
THE OWLS
> Aleah Nelson is a leader on the offensive end in the Conference. She ranks fifth in the AAC in scoring (15.6 ppg) and second in assists (4.43 apg). Nelson is one of two players this in the nation this season to register a stat line of at least 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in a game without committing a turnover.
> Guard Jasha Clinton is second on the team in scoring with 11.5 ppg. After a slow start to the season, the Virginia Beach, Va. native has scored in double-figures in five of the six games and is averaging a team-high 15.7 points per contest in the last three games.
> Tiarra East has been a force off the bench as of late. The wing is putting up 11.4 points per game and a team-leading 6.0 rebounds per game.
> Tarriyonna Gary is a lethal shooter. She ranks third in the American in three-point shooting percentage (.388). The shooting guard is averaging 9.0 points per game.
SCOUTING CINCINNATI
> Cincinnati has had a pair of sub .500 seasons the last couple years. In 2020-21, the Bearcats were 8-16, with an 11-17 record following in 2021-22. Last season, Cincinnati began the season with four straight losses in conference and ended the conference slate losing six out of their last seven games.
> So far in 2022, the Bearcats have been inconsistent. Cincy is 7-7, with no streak on the winning or losing side exceeding two games. They have dropped their last two games, falling to Northern Kentucky by 20, and to Wichita State by 11.
> Jillian Hayes is the player to watch for Cincinnati. Hayes is averaging 14.3 ppg (8th in the conference) and 8.4 rpg (4th in the conference). Hayes also ranks second in the conference in blocks (1.6 bpg), she has been named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll twice.
> Michelle Clark-Heard leads the Cincinnati program in her fifth season, and 13th as an NCAA head coach. Clark-Heard is 72-61 during her time with the Bearcats, and 250-141 overall. Prior to her time at Cincinnati, she held the head coaching position at Western Kentucky where she took the team to four NCAA tournaments in six years.
SERIES HISTORY
> Temple and Cincinnati have played each other every season since Temple joined the AAC in 2013. This will be the Owls' last trip to Cincinnati before the Bearcats depart the conference.
