Women’s Tennis Earns First Win of 2023 Over VCU, 4-2

RICHMOND, Va. – Temple women's tennis (1-0) earned their first win of 2023, downing the reigning Atlantic 10 Champions, VCU (0-1), 4-2 on Friday afternoon.
Notes
- The Owls came out strong in doubles play, first earning the win from Sena Takebe and Thamara Frasser Kawaratani in the third position, followed by a win from Evie Wei and Veronika Kulhava in the second position to enter singles play with the advantage.
- The Rams wasted no time, finding the first singles point after posting a win from the No. 4 position.
- Maiko Uchijima secured a dominant 6-2, 6-3 win from the No. 5 spot to give the Owls the lead yet again, but the Rams prevailed from the No. 1 spot after three sets to bring the score back to 2-2.
- With two three positions left to play, senior standout Jamie Wei stepped up, earning a win from the No. 2 position, followed by a win from Veronika Kulhava in the third position to come home with the 4-2 win.
