Temple earns five personal bests and eight top-15 finishes on Saturday

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Temple's track and field team finished off the two-day Dr. Sanders Invitational as senior Tannekee Strachan led the parliament of Owls on the day with a first-place finish in the triple jump. As a team, the Cherry and White picked up five personal bests and eight top-15 finishes on Saturday.
 
Saturday Results
  • The Saint Catherine, Jamaica native Strachan picked up ten team points with her sixth career indoor triple jump victory on Saturday as she won with distance 12.70 meters.
  • Saturday's 800 meters featured four heats, while freshman distance runner Elvira Bredin finished the first two heats of the four at the time with an event-best time of 2:13.22, eventually finishing sixth overall on the afternoon, while picking up three team points for Temple.
  • Fellow distance runner Laura Nicholson had an impressive showing during the mile run on Saturday. The junior picked up five team points as she ran a personal best of 4:54.11, good for a fourth-place finish.
  • For the second straight week, pole vaulter Allie Riches reached the 3.75-meter height. Riches picked up four team points as she tied her own school record mark that she set last week, breaking a 13-year mark set by Melissa Gale in 2010. On Saturday, the junior would earn a fifth-place finish during the meet.
  • Marissa White earned a top-15 (14th) finish on the day in the 400 meters with a time 57.33.
  • The trio of Amira Green, Nicole Castor, and Jaaliyah Evans all met or eclipsed previous benchmarks in the high jump. Green and Castor tied for eighth with the height of 1.65 meters, while Evans finished 10th with 1.60 meters. Green set a new career-high, while Castor sets a season-high, and Evans tied her career-high. Castor and Green would earn .5 team points apiece with the eighth-place tie.
  • The 4x400 team of Chidumga Nkulume, Marissa White, Chelby Elam, and Lauren Greig earned with the Owls' second-best time of the season (3.56.15) as they finished 12th overall.
