Football Falls to North Texas on the Road

10.14.23 | Football

DENTON, Texas — Temple (2-5, 0-3) lost to the North Texas Mean Green (3-3, 1-1), 45-14, on a Saturday afternoon American Athletic Conference road matchup. The story of the game was the Mean Green offense, with over 500 yards of total offense. The Temple rushing attack stood out, with 242 yards, the second time this season the Owls have surpassed 200 yards on the ground. QB Quincy Patterson rushed for 113 yards, becoming the third quarterback in Temple football history to pass the century marker in a game.

How it Happened

  • The Owls forced the Mean Green into a fourth-down attempt at the Temple 46-yard line on the first drive of the game, but North Texas managed to score the first points of the game off a 19-yard touchdown pass from QB Chandler Rogers to WR Roderic Burns with 9:08 remaining in the first quarter.
  • RB Darvon Hubbard evened the game at 7-7 with a seven-yard rushing touchdown with 5:19 remaining in the first quarter. The Owls broke loose for four runs of 10 yards or more on the drive.
  • With 2:17 left in the first quarter, North Texas built back a 14-7 lead with a 41-touchdown pass from Rogers to WR Ja'Mori Maclin.
  • North Texas extended its lead to 21-7 with 12:51 remaining in the first half, as Rogers completed to WR Kaylon Horton for an 11-yard touchdown.
  • QB Quincy Patterson cut the deficit to 21-14 with 8:53 remaining in the first half, rushing in a seven-yard touchdown rush.
  • The Mean Green added a field goal in the second quarter to hold a 24-14 advantage over the Owls at halftime.
  • Temple fell behind 31-14 with 11:45 remaining in the third quarter, after North Texas RB Oscar Adaway II rushed in a 43-yard touchdown.
  • The Owls forced a turnover on downs with 8:16 remaining in the third quarter, behind a tackle from DL Conlan Greene.
  • The Mean Green added a 64-yard passing touchdown from Rogers to Maclin and a 23-yard rushing touchdown by Isaiah Johnson to build a 45-14 lead.
Statistically Speaking
  • Quincy Patterson's 113 rushing yards are the most by a Temple quarterback since Chris Coyer rushed for 184 yards at Ohio during the 2011 season.
  • Patterson is just the third quarterback in Temple history to eclipse 100 rushing yards in a game. Walter Washington (2003-04) did so five times during his career and Chris Coyer (2010-13) rushed for over 100 yards once.
  • CB Dominick Hill led the Owls in tackles, setting new single-game career highs in total tackles (12) and solo tackles (10).
  • LB Diwun Black set a career high with two sacks.
  • RB Darvon Hubbard rushed for 69 yards on 11 carries, scoring one rushing touchdown.
