Temple returns to Philadelphia to host the SMU Mustangs on a Friday night matchup at Lincoln Financial Field on Oct. 20. The Owls are in search of their first American Athletic Conference victory of the season. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNÂ and air on 95.7Â BEN FM at 7p.m.
LAST WEEK
The Owls traveled to Denton, Texas to face the North Texas Mean Green and lost 45-14.
The story of the game was Temple's rushing attack, which tallied 242 yards on the ground. The mark is the second most in a game by the Owls this season, behind the team's 290-yard performance in Week 3 against Norfolk State.
QB Quincy Patterson, who made his first-career start as an Owl, became just the third Temple quarter- back to ever rush for 100 yards in a game. Patterson rushed for 113 yards and one rushing touchdown on the day, while throwing for 105 yards. His 113 yards are the most rushing yards in a game by a Temple quarterback since Chris Coyer (2010-13) rushed for 184 yards at Ohio during 2011 season. RB Darvon Hubbard contributed well toward Temple's rushing attack, totaling 69 yards off 11 carries and scoring one rushing touchdown.
Defensively, CB Dominick Hill set single-game career highs in total tackles (12) and solo tackles (10). LB Diwun Black had success putting pressure on the opposing quarterback, tallying a career-high two sacks on the day.
LAST TIME VS. SMU
The last time Temple matched up with SMU was a Week 5 contest at Lincoln Financial Field during the 2020 season, when the Owls wered defeated 47-23. WR Randle Jones broke loose for a 75-yard touch- down reception on his way to leading Temple with 86 receiving yards. William Kwenkeu led Temple's defensive efforts with 10 total tackles and two tackles for loss.

In the all-time series between Temple and SMU, the Mustangs hold a narrow 3-2-2 advantage.
Since the inception of the AAC, matchups between the Owls and Mustangs have been considerably high scoring. The last five matchups have included one team scoring at least 45 points, while the average total points scored in those games by both teams is 81.8. Temple's last win against SMU came in 2016, when the Owls defeated the Mustangs 45-20 behind 161 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns by RB Ryquell Armstead.
