Service Aces Key to Volleyball’s Sweep of Rider

Temple earns its seventh sweep this season
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple Owls' volleyball team improved to 13-7 overall on the season with a 25-14, 25-15, 25-13 sweep of non-conference opponent, Rider (5-14) on Wednesday night in McGonigle Hall. Freshman setter Lexi Yoza had a career-high three service aces in the victory, while senior outside hitter Taylor Davenport led all players in the match with 11 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Davenport's 11 kills now give her 972 for her career.
- Temple's nine service aces was the second most of by the team this season to the season-high 14 earlier this season.
- The Owls dominated the match, allowing just two leads to the Broncs.
- The Cherry and White's 10 team blocks, marks the eighth time this season the team recorded double-figures. Junior Chelci Banks, freshman Olivia Hummel, and senior Chudear Tut tied for a match-high three blocks.
SET 1 (TU 25, RID 14)
- Banks and graduate transfer Avery Luoma combined for six blocks in the first set as both players hit .500 and .600, respectively.
- As a team, Temple hit .269 in the first-set win, while holding Rider a -.138 hitting percentage.
- The Owls used three runs of four points or more to put away Rider.
SET 2 (TU 25, RID 15)
- With the scored tied 2-2, Taylor Davenport opened a 6-2 lead for Temple as she reeled off four straight points with a kill and an ace, along with kills from graduate transfer Olivia Vance and Hummel.
- Five of the six Owls recorded two or more kills in the second set. Led by Davenport with four kills, graduate transfer Luoma was perfect on the attack with three attacks.
- Brynn Johnson led Rider with four kills with a .300 hitting percentage.
SET 3 (TU 25, RID 13)
- The Owls used three runs of four points or more to put away Rider in the third set.
- With the Broncs taking a 1-0 lead, the Cherry and White immediately scored five points, getting a kill and a pair of aces by Vance.
- Yoza had all three of her service aces on the night during a 7-0 run.
- Temple outscored the Broncs 14-2 over the final 16 points of set three.
