Volleyball Travels to Charlotte For Weekend Matches

PHILADELPHIA – After sweeping the Rider Broncs on Wednesday night and improving to 13-7 overall on the season, the Temple Owls volleyball team will head back out on the road for American Athletic Conference play with a pair of matches against the Charlotte 49ers on Friday and Saturday. Both matches will be available on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
In the win against Rider on Wednesday, Temple senior Taylor Davenport added a match-high 11 kills, improving her career mark to 972. The Columbia, S.C. native hit .417 in the match, helping the Owls to .269 overall. Freshman setter Lexi Yoza added a career-high three service aces with a match-high 15 assists. On the defensive side, The Cherry and White's 10 team blocks, marks the eighth time this season the team recorded double-figures. Junior Chelci Banks, freshman Olivia Hummel, and senior Chudear Tut tied for a match-high three blocks.
SCOUTING CHARLOTTE
AAC newcomer Charlotte is sixth in the east division behind Temple with a 2-6 conference record and 9-11 overall. The 49ers have lost their last four matches to USF (2), Rice, and SMU. Sydney Baham comes into the weekend series as she anchors the defense with 1.07 blocks and is tied for fifth in the AAC with 72 blocks. Lara Kretschimer leads the offense with 3.08 points per set and 156 kills.
TEMPLE VS. CHARLOTTE
Temple and Charlotte have met 15 times from 2005-14 when both teams were in the Atlantic 10 conference. The Owls lead the series 9-6 and have won the last two matches. In the last match on Sept. 5, 2014, Carolina Grattan led Temple with 16 kills and 13 digs in the 3-1 victory, while Alyssa Drachslin recorded a match-high 22 digs.

Temple remains on the road next weekend (Oct. 27/29) when it travel to the Lonestar State to play North Texas and Rice.
