Golf Sits in 12th Place Following Day One at the Bill Cullum Invitational

SOMIS, CA - Temple Golf struggled for the first time this fall season, finishing a 36-hole day one at the 27th annual Bill Cullum Invitational in 12th place among the 14-team field.  The two-day, 54-hole tournament held at The Saticoy Club and hosted by Cal State Northridge will conclude Tuesday.

Recapping the First Day
> Sophomore Aidan Emmerich, a transfer from Michigan State, led the way for the Owls, shooting a three-over 147 to tie for 20th overall.   Emmerich shot a two-under 70 in the morning round before carding a five over 77 in the afternoon.   
> Senior Graham Chase was next for Temple and tied for 40th overall with a seven-over 151.  Chase topped the Owls in the afternoon round with a three over 75. 
> Freshman Matthew Vital, in his second week in the starting lineup, was next with an eight-over 152.  Vital, who is tied for 42nd overall, had the lone eagle for the Owls, making it on the par five, 515-yard sixth hole. 
> Michael Walsh was one stroke back and tied for 53rd with a nine-over 153 while junior Ethan Whitney struggled through an atypical 17-over 161 score for his two rounds to finish the day tied for 74th. 
 
The Field
>   Host and two-time defending champion Cal State Northridge (578) leads second place North Dakota State (585) by seven strokes after the first two rounds of play.  Hawaii and UC Riverside are tied for third place with a 587.
> David McDowell from San Diego State leads the field with a two-under 142.  Antoine Sale from Cal State Northridge and Jack Johnson from North Dakota State are one shot back and tied for second with one-under 143s.
