10.11.23 | Women's Fencing
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple fencing team has announced the 2023-24 slate, its second schedule with head coach Jennie Salmon at the helm of the program. The Owls' campaign is once again highlighted by top competition and three home events.
"This season, our schedule is well rounded and will challenge us to bring our best to every meet," Salmon said. "We will face other top-ranked teams throughout the season, a proven formula that will inspire us to maintain our drive and continuously improve. The team came well prepared for preseason and we are ready to get started at the Garret Open and the Coach Nikki Franke Classic in the coming weeks."
The Owls will open their 2023-24 campaign with a pair of preseason meets, heading to Penn State on Oct. 21 for the Garret Open. Temple will host the inaugural Coach Nikki Franke Classic (formerly the Temple Open) on Nov. 4-5, with the event being recently renamed to honor legendary former head coach Dr. Nikki Franke. This will be the 43rd year that Temple has hosted the event, but the first under its new name.
The Cherry and White will open dual play on the road, heading to Fairfield, Conn. for the Sacred Heart Duals on Dec. 3. The team will get a break for the rest of December before US Fencing competition at the January North American Cup on Jan. 5-8 and will return to collegiate play the following week at the Penn State Invitational (Jan. 14).
Temple returns to the City of Brotherly Love on Jan. 19 and 21 for the Philadelphia Invitational, with Day One of the event taking place at the TU Pavilion and Day Two taking place at Penn. The Owls will head to the Windy City on Feb. 3-4 for the Northwestern Duals before traveling to North Carolina for the Tar Heel Duals on Feb. 10 and the Duke Invitational on Feb. 11. TU will get a two-week break before closing out the regular season with the Temple Invitational in McGonigle Hall on Feb. 25.
Postseason play begins on March 3 at the NIWFA Championships, where Temple will look to capture its 28th-straight NIWFA Title. NCAA Regionals are set for March 10 and the NCAA Championships will be on March 23-26 at Ohio State.
