Women’s Basketball Falls to BIG EAST Foe Georgetown

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team (1-1, 0-0) suffered its first loss of the season, falling to the Georgetown Hoyas (2-0, 0-0), 68-45. Georgetown was red hot from the field, shooting 53% including 45% from beyond the arc. Rayne Tucker and Tarriyonna Gary led Temple in scoring with 12 points each.
 

First Quarter: Temple 8, Georgetown 24

> The scoring was light early in the first, with only four total points being scored in the opening two minutes.

> Rayne Tucker carried the early scoring load for the Owls, scoring Temple's first eight points. The redshirt-senior hit two three-point baskets in the first frame, setting a new career high for threes in a game.

> The Hoyas built a 13-5 lead midway through the quarter after starting 6-8 from the field. Georgetown extended its lead to 24-8 with 1:16 remaining in the quarter.

> Tucker scored Temple's only eight points in the first quarter.

 

Second Quarter: Temple 17, Georgetown 39

> Aleah Nelson and Tiarra East began to rally a comeback effort with back-to-back buckets, but the Hoyas returned serve with seven unanswered to go up 21 going into the media timeout. 

> A deep two by Tarriyonna Gary snapped a field goal drought for the Cherry & White. Piper scored the final basket of the half to cut the lead to 22.

> The Hoyas shot 50% from the field, including 50% from beyond the arc in the first half.

 

Third Quarter: Temple 33, Georgetown 56

> The third began as a quarter of runs, with the sides trading off spurts of control. Georgetown held a 47-22 lead going into the media timeout.

> Temple began to find its footing on offense as the quarter wound down. With Tristen Taylor, Gary, and Tucker finding the bottom of the basket.

> Gary led all Owls in the frame with seven points. 

 

Fourth Quarter: Temple 45, Georgetown 68

> Tucker stayed hot in the fourth, opening the frame with a mid-range two. Gary was quick to follow with a three to trim the lead to 18.

>  Georgetown rebounded with six straight points to put the lead back at 64-40 going into the under five minute media timeout. 

> Taylor hit a three as time wound down to set the final score at Temple 45, Georgetown 68.

 

Game Notes 

> Tucker's first three-point basket in the first quarter was her first as an Owl. Her 12 points are the most she has scored since 2/4/22 at William & Mary when she played for Diane Richardson at Towson.

> Aleah Nelson passed for a game-high six assists.
