Track & Field Shines at a Pair of Friday Meets; Riches Breaks Pole Vault Record Again

NEW YORK CITY & BOSTON – The Temple track & field program put on a show this weekend as the team competed in two meets. Most of the sprint group, along with the distance runners headed to the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University while the field team along with a few short distance runners will head to Fastrack National Invitational in New York City.
 
Allie Riches headlined once again for the Cherry & White. The senior pole vaulted her way to her third program record in four weeks, setting a mark of 4.05m. Tannekee Strachan claimed victory in the Triple Jump, reaching a mark of 12.63, nearly a whole meter in front of second place (11.74m)
 
Results – Valentine Invitational
  • Elvira Bredin ran for a time of 2:09.56 in the 800m dash in Boston for a personal best. She finished 51st in a field of nearly 250 runners.
  • Marrissa White finished in 17th place overall in the 400m dash amongst of over 200 runners. Kwanda Knight PR'd in the event with a time of 57.53 seconds. She was one of two Owls to earn a personal best in the event, with Chidumga Nkulume shattering her personal best with a time of 57.97, her previous best was 59.59 seconds.
  • Freshman Madison Trout continued the strong start to her Temple career, setting a personal record in the 200m, clocking a time of 25.39. On the distance side Laura Nicolson set a career best mark in the mile with a time of 4:48.25.
  • The 4x400 team consisting of Knight, Nkulume, White, and Trout ran a time of 3:49.60 for Temple's best of the season while finishing 10th out of 49 teams.

  • Isatu Shirek finished fifth in 60m hurdles qualifiers to earn her way to the finals where she finished eighth.
  • Riches set a new school record in the pole vault with a mark of 4.05 meters while demolishing the competition. Her mark of 4.05m far outpaced the next best vaulter (3.36M).
  • Strachan won the triple jump and placed third in the long jump reaching 5.58m. Allyson Metzger also performed well, taking eighth place with a mark of 5.29m.
  • Christial Pommells had her best performance of the season so far, running a time of 58.56 seconds in 400m dash, good for a finish of 13th place. This was an indoor PR for her.
  • Amira Green placed second in the high jump with a personal best mark of 1.70 meters. Nicole Castor tied the PR she set last week with a mark of 1.65 meters.
