Women’s Lacrosse Edged by UMBC in Overtime, 11-10

PHILADELPHIA – Temple lacrosse (5-3, 0-0 AAC) dropped to UMBC (5-2, 0-0 America East) on Saturday, 11-10 in a tight overtime matchup at Howarth Field. Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Grollman had a career-best day in goal, recording 10 saves.
Recapping the Game
"This was a tough loss today," Head Coach Bonnie Rosen said. "I really felt like the game was in our hands to win. As with most games, win or lose, there were things we did well and things that we didn't do well today. We will learn the lessons from today and get back to work at practice."

The Owls will return to play next Saturday, Mar. 18, traveling to New Haven, Conn., to face off against No. 15 Yale. First draw is set for 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Recapping the Game
- UMBC came out strong, netting the first two goals of the day, but the Owls quickly shifted the momentum with a three-goal run.
- Junior defender put the Owls on the board first, receiving a dish from Belle Mastropietro right off the draw control.
- Mia Ciancio converted next to tie the game at two before defender Katie Shallow netted a goal of her own.
- UMBC snuck one more in, but Amelia Wright, Ciancio and Julie Schickling all tallied a goal apiece to end the first quarter with the 6-3 advantage.
- The Retrievers netted two more goals in the second quarter, but Schickling split their momentum with a goal in between, followed by an Amelia Wright finish to close out the half, 8-5.
- UMBC found three goals throughout the third quarter, while Camryn Zavacky recorded a Temple goal to keep the Owls out in front, entering the fourth quarter with the 9-8 lead.
- The Retrievers continued their momentum in to the fourth quarter, netting back-to-back goals to take the 10-9 advantage.
- Wright came up big for the Cherry and White, finishing off a Zavacky assist with less than two minutes remaining to tie the game back up at 10 and head into overtime.
- The Retrievers won the draw to gain the first possession, finding a goal just a minute later for the 11-10 win.
- Barber tallied both her first career goal and first career assist in the matchup.
- Grollman posted a career-best ten saves on 24 shots for a .476 save percentage.
- Gabrielle Kirsch recorded her first assist of 2023, finding Schickling for the Cherry and White's seventh goal of the game.
