Lacrosse Set to Host City Rival Saint Joseph’s on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – Temple lacrosse (3-2) is set to host Saint Joseph's (1-4) on Saturday, Mar. 4 at Howarth Field. First draw is set for 12 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

> The matchup between the Owls and the Hawks marks the 26th time the teams' have met in program history, with an all-time record of 21-4. Temple and SJU last met in 2022, where No. 22 Temple defeated the Hawks 15-11 on Feb. 19.

- The Owls enter the matchup with a 3-2 record, most recently posting a 1-1 week, which included a 9-7 win over Delaware and a 17-9 loss to No. 17 Princeton. The Cherry and White put up a good fight against the nationally ranked Tigers, trailing by just three goals at the conclusion of the third quarter but Princeton continued to exert offensive force in the final 15 minutes, netting six goals to end the game with the 17-9 win.
- Belle Mastropietro had yet another standout performance in the 1-1 week. The midfielder had a career-best on the draw circle, grabbing 21 draw controls, which included 15 against No. 17 Princeton to set a career high. The Springfield, Pa., native is just five draw controls away from breaking the career draw control record at Temple (236) set by Kara Nakrasius in 2021.
- Mastropietro continues to lead the Owls with 21 points on 15 goals and six assists. Following behind is Mackenzie Roth, who has showed her versatility, netting seven goals while also dishing out seven assists for 14 points.
- Shallow has been a defensive leader for the Cherry and White, tying for second in the conference in caused turnovers per game (2.00) and fifth in groundballs per game (2.80), while fellow defender Maddie Barber joins her at the top of the charts, sitting at fourth in groundballs per game (3.00) and fourth in caused turnovers per game (1.80)
- Charessa Crosse and Amelia Wright have rounded out the offensive unit with solid contributions, each recording eight points. Crosse has netted seven goals and dished an assist while Wright sits at five goals and three assists.
- Sophomore Taylor Grollman has assumed the primary role of goalkeeper for the Owls, starting in all five competitions of 2023. The Severn, Md., native has recorded 23 saves on the season with an 8.54 GAA, helping the Temple defense sit at 23rd nationally in scoring defenses, only allowing 9.00 goals per game.
- Saint Joseph's enters the matchup with a 1-4 record, most recently earning their first win of the season against Towson in an 8-6 battle on Mar. 1.
- Goalie Jordan Concordia had a standout night for the Hawks, posting a career-best 19 saves to keep the Hawks ahead. SJU only allowed one goal in the entirety of the second half, outscoring the Tigers 5-1 to earn their first home win of the season.
- Maddie Yoder leads the team in both points (11) and goals (10), recording at least one point in every game for the Hawks. The sophomore led the team early on, netting four goals against No. 2 Maryland and three against Villanova.
- Bonnie Yu trails close behind with nine points on seven goals and two assists. Yu was instrumental in the win over Towson, netting three goals, including two fourth quarter goals to propel the Hawks to victory.
- Lisa Ross has been a valuable helper on offense, leading the team in assists, with four.
- Prior to Towson, SJU suffered losses to No. 2 Maryland (15-5), Lehigh (10-9), Villanova (14-13) and UConn (14-7).
- Last year, the Hawks clinched their first ever A10 Championship Title, upsetting No. 13 UMass, 15-11 to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Saint Joseph's faced off against Rutgers in the first round, but ultimately dropped 17-10.
