Lacrosse Defeats City Rival Saint Joseph’s, 13-10

PHILADELPHIA – Temple lacrosse (4-2, 0-0 AAC) defeated city foe, Saint Joseph's (1-5, 0-0 A10), 13-10 on Saturday afternoon, picking up their second home victory of the season. The Owls were led by Mackenzie Roth, posting five points on three goals and two assists.

Recapping the Game
- Saint Joseph's struck first, finding a goal a minute and half into play, but the Owls answered back, netting the next three goals of the game to advance to a 3-1 lead. Camryn Zavacky, Amelia Wright, and Roth all found the back of the net for the Cherry and White.
- The Hawks snuck one more in before the end of the quarter to cut the deficit to just one goal, but Belle Mastropietro opened the second quarter with a goal of her own off a Wright assist.
- Saint Joseph's went on a three-goal run to take the 5-4 advantage, which would be their final lead of the game.
- Wright tied it back up at five off a Zavacky dish before Julie Schickling found her first of the day from Mia Ciancio to give the Cherry and White the 6-5 lead as they entered the half.
- As the Owls opened play in the second half, Mastropietro converted on a free position, followed by a Roth finish, drawing out the Owl lead to 8-5.
- Saint Joseph's split the momentum with a goal, but Erin King and Roth continued to exert pressure, each netting a goal apiece for Temple, providing more cushion.
- Two Saint Joseph's goals closed out the third quarter at 10-8, but the Cherry and White kept their foot on the gas, finding goals from Ciancio, Mastropietro, and Wright with just five minutes remaining in play.
- The Hawks added two more to close out the fourth quarter, but it would not be enough to inch back in, finishing the game 13-10.
Statistically Speaking
- Wright had a standout performance for the Owls, posting a career best in points (4) on three goals and one assist.
- Ciancio set a new career best in both goals and points, netting two goals and adding an assist for three points on the day.
- Zavacky, who has been a valuable helper for Temple found her first goal of the season, advancing to eight points on one goal and seven assists.
- Roth had a season-best five points, on three goals and two assists in addition to two caused turnovers and two groundballs.
- Maddie Barber was a force on the draw controls, grabbing a season best of seven to lead the Cherry and White.
