Lacrosse Welcomes No. 5 JMU Saturday for Conference Opener

PHILADELPHIA – Temple lacrosse (5-4, 0-0 AAC) is set to host No. 5 JMU (9-1, 1-0 AAC) for the conference opener, and their first ever matchup against the Dukes as a conference opponent on Saturday, Mar. 25. First draw is set for 12 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+. The day will serve as alumni day, as the current team and coaching staff invites all past alumni to come back and support the current Owls, with a special honor for the 15th anniversary of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship team. In addition, there will be a t-shirt giveaway for the first 150 fans in attendance through a voucher system.

- The Owls enter the matchup with a 5-4 record, which includes a 2-2 home split.
- Belle Mastropietro continues to lead the offensive efforts, with 33 points on 23 goals and 10 assists. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed on other areas of the field, as she has grabbed 58 draw controls, caused ten turnovers, and scooped up 12 groundballs.
- Mastropietro's 58 draw controls sits at second in the conference in draw controls per game (6.88) and 19th nationally as of Mar. 21.
- Mackenzie Roth continues to surge up the all-time career assist leaderboard at Temple, sitting at sixth with 72. With 12 this year, she now needs to dish out 18 more helpers to break the all-time record of 89 set by Gail Cummings ('88).
- Amelia Wright, Julie Schickling, Camryn Zavacky and Maeve Tobin have contributed heavily to offensive production. Wright has netted 12 goals and added six assists for 18 points to sit at third on the team, while Zavacky, Schickling and Tobin follow with 14, 13, and 12 points respectively.
- Sophomore Taylor Grollman has advanced to 55 saves on the year, recording double digits saves in each of the last two contests. Her GAA of 10.00 sits at 24th in the national rankings.
- The Owl defense has shined, sitting at 33rd in the country in scoring defense as of Mar. 21, only allowing 10.22 goals per game on average.
- The impressive defensive performance is spearheaded by Taylor Moncman, Gabrielle Kirsch, Maddie Barber, and Katie Shallow. The four have combined for 72 groundballs and 32 caused turnovers. Their 72 groundballs have helped the team advance to 158 on the season, ranking first in the AAC.

- JMU enters the matchup on an eight-game winning streak, posting a 9-1 record, which includes a 1-0 conference slate.
- In their ten games played, they have faced off against five top 25 teams, only dropping to No. 1 UNC in the first game of the season, 14-9.
- The Dukes most recently defeated No. 12 Virginia at home on Wednesday, Mar. 22, defeating the Cavaliers, 10-8 after trailing 6-5 at the conclusion of the third quarter.
- Prior to Virginia, JMU opened conference play against No. 8 Florida on Mar. 18, posting a dominant 14-9 victory in their first matchup as an AAC team.
- Redshirt junior Isabella Peterson leads both the Dukes and the American Athletic Conference in goals, posting 40 goals and eight assists for 48 points.
- Tai Jankowski, Katelyn Morgan and Maddie Epke have all been consistent contributors, posting 38, 27 and 22 points respectively. Morgan leads the team in assists, dishing out 20.
- Epke, Peterson, and Rachel Matey have been stellar on the draw circle, combing for 118 draw controls, with Peterson and Matey leading the charge, each with 42 apiece.
- Mairead Durkin has been a standout on defense, recording 25 caused turnovers, sitting at fourth nationally in caused turnovers per game (2.67) and first in the conference.
- Kat Buchanan has started in all ten games for the Dukes, posting 67 saves and a 8.08 GAA. Her 8.08 GAA sits at second in the conference and eighth nationally.
Series History vs. JMU
- The matchup between Temple and JMU marks the ninth time the teams' have met in program history, with an all-time record of 4-4. Temple last found a victory over the Dukes in 1991, defeating JMU, 17-10 on May 7.
