PHILADELPHIA – On Friday night during session two of the 2023 NCAA Gymnastics Pitt Regional, Temple juniors Brooke Donabedian and Renee Schugman will take the stage at the Peterson Events Center during the floor exercise. The evening session is slated to begin at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
Donabedian continued her journey back to the national stage after a 2022 21st place finish at the Raleigh Regional. The Maple Valley, Wash. native earned a bid to this season's regional after earning the third-best NQS in the EAGL, the sixth-best mark in the northeast region, and a No. 42 national ranking at 9.915. Donabedian earned six scores in the 9.9 range and tallied five floor event wins this season, including the March 5 Senior Day when she tied her own school record with a 9.950, a record she tied at home last season on Senior Day.
Schugman will make her first-ever trip to NCAA Regionals after earning the seventh-best NQS (9.900) in the EAGL and northeast region, along with being in the top 75 nationally. The Smithtown, N.Y. native earned a pair of event wins this past season, including a career-high at 9.925 at home on Feb. 19. The junior tallied five scores in the 9.9 range, including a string of three meets where she averaged 9.908.
The Donabedian and Schugman selections mark the fifth and sixth times in program history that a Temple gymnast earned a spot at a NCAA Regional floor competition. The previous four include, India Anderson (2019), Julianna Roland (2021), Faith Leary (2021), and Donabedian (2022).
