Owls Win Seventh-Straight Over Drexel, 4-3

Philadelphia – Temple women's tennis (8-1) defeated the Drexel Dragons (5-8) in a close match on Wednesday afternoon, March 8 by a final score of 4-3. The win marks the Owls' seventh-consecutive victory.
 
NOTES:
  • Temple earned the doubles point by sweeping all three of Drexel's pairs. Sena Takebe and Thamara Frasser Kawaratani won 6-0 from the third position first, followed by Maiko Uchijima and Jamie Wei in the first position with a 6-3 victory.
  • After losing the doubles point, Drexel then went on to win the first three singles matches out of the first, second and third positions to take the lead against Temple, 3-1. 
  • The Owls, led by Maiko Uchijima, Evie Wei and Sena Takebe, fought back from the fourth, fifth and sixth positions to win the match 4-3.
  • Drexel's Lorie Lemongo continues her success from the first position after defeating Temple's Veronika Kulhava. Lemongo is now 9-3 from the top spot this spring.

"Good performance by the women today. It is always exciting to play against a city rival like Drexel," head coach Steve Mauro said. We came out strong and played some very good doubles matches but unfortunately, we started off slow in singles, but we picked it up at the end in positions four, five, and six with some great tennis. It was an overall good win for our team.

The Owls will take Thursday to prepare for their match against the Marist Red Foxes on Friday, March 10, which will take place at the Cherry Hill Racquet Club. It is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
