Calderaro Named Academic All-Area

PHILADELPHIA - Temple fencer Margherita Calderaro has been named to the Academic All-Area team along with 13 other Philadelphia-area student-athletes, including three Temple gymnasts. The team is nominated and voted on by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least their second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better.Â
Calderaro finished the 2022-23 season with a 59-24 record in dual play, the second-best record on the team and the best among the epee squad. The Rome, Italy native finished 12th at the Garret Open and second at the Temple Open in the preseason before earning her second-career NIWFA Individual Epee Title in March. Calderaro qualified for the NCAA Regionals for the third-straight year and finished in 17th place.
Three other Owls were named Academic All-Area, with Brooke Donabedian, Anna Hill, and Cyrena Whalen from the gymnastics team all being tabbed.
