PHILADELPHIA – Tristen Taylor, a 5-5 guard from Duncanville, Texas, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Temple University in the fall, announced head coach Diane Richardson. Taylor is the third freshmen to join the 2023 class. Jaleesa Molina and Sheyenne Swain-Price signed with the program in November.
"We are delighted to bring in freshman guard Tristen Taylor," Richardson said. "Tristen brings a tenacity on defense and a high basketball IQ. Her passing ability creates havoc for opponents. Tristen will be an asset for the Temple program for the next four years."
Taylor was starting point guard for nationally ranked and 11-time state champion Duncanville High School this past season. Duncanville is the alma mater of WNBA Champion and two-time all-star Ariel Atkins and former All-American and top five WNBA draft pick Tiffany Jackson, who passed away last year. During her time on the Duncanville varsity squad, Taylor helped lead the school to the 2020 6A Championship game and a 40-3 record. The 2021 6A Regional Finals (34-7 overall), the 2022 regional finals, and a perfect 13-0 record in 2023 before the Duncanville season was cut short.
Individually, Taylor was named the 2020 Dallas Morning News All-Area First Team as a freshmen. In 2022, she was named First Team All-District and to the All-District Academic Team. On the AAU side, she led Team Lex Nation to both the 2022 PBR Super 64 Championship and the 2022 Girls 3SSB Adidas Championship.
