No. 8 Temple Set to Face No. 9 Tulane in Opening Round of AAC Tournament

ORLANDO, FL – The Temple women's tennis team (16-4) have been ranked No. 9 in the AAC Conference Tournament and are set to face No. 8 Tulane (7-10) on Wednesday morning, April 19, at 9:00 a.m. The match will be held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, FL.

- Temple is coming off a 5-2 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas last Friday, April 14. The match served as senior day honoring Jamie Wei and Ginevra Peiretti for their accomplishments both on and off the court. It also marked the Owls' sixth-consecutive victory as they wrapped up their regular season.
- First-year student Maiko Uchijima leads the team in wins this season. The Japan native has a 24-2 record dating back to the fall season and her first action as an Owl. She and doubles partner Jamie Wei are also nationally ranked thanks to their 28-2 record this season.
- Newcomer Thamara Frasser Kawaratani stepped up and assumed responsibilities of the top position in singles play. She is 6-6 with a 10-8 overall record in her first year with Temple. Her and doubles partner Sena Takebe are on the brink of securing their 10th doubles win this spring.
- The Owls fell to South Florida in the first round of the AAC Tournament last season by a final score of 4-3.
SCOUTING TULANE:
- Tulane has dropped their previous two matches against ranked opponents of No. 68 Tulsa and No. 55 USF. Both matches were against conference opponents in the AAC before the tournament began.
- Through April 16, Brooke Theis leads the Green Wave in wins with a 9-5 record in singles play. She is 1-0 from the fifth position but 8-5 from the sixth, helping to bring consistency to the back end of the singles lineup.
- In doubles, the combination of Charlotte Russell and Lahari Yelamanchili have a 8-5 record with all appearances coming from the first position. They are also 4-2 in conference play and are 6-4 in their last 10 matches.
- Throughout the spring season, Tulane had to face a total of seven ranked opponents including the No. 1 team in the country, Texas. The only ranked team they were able to upset was No. 69 North Texas on March 10. The final score was 4-0.
- In last year's AAC tournament, Tulane fell to No. 4 Memphis in the quarterfinal round, 4-3.
