Temple Defeats Tulane in Opening Round of AAC Tournament

ORLANDO, FL – Temple women's tennis (17-4) defeated the No. 9 seed Tulane Green Wave (7-11) by a final score of 4-2 in the opening round of the AAC Conference Tournament. The Owls will now move onto the second round to face No. 1 SMU on Thursday, April 20. The victory today marked Temple's first win in the AAC Tournament since 2015.

The Owls will move onto the second round of the tournament with a match scheduled against No. 1 SMU, who had a bye in the first round of the tournament. NOTES:
- Temple found themselves down 1-0 in the match after dropping the doubles point to begin play this morning. Tulane's duo of Borland/Theis defeated Kawaratani/Takebe in a 6-0 shutout to pick up the first doubles win. Yelamanchili/Russell then defeated Uchijima/J. Wei in the first position to help Tulane gain the 1-0 advantage.
- Temple's Maiko Uchijima and Sena Takebe were the first to overcome their opponents in singles' play from the sixth and third positions respectively.
- Jiayun Zhu was the sole player for Tulane to win a singles match against Evie Wei in the fifth position. Zhu's win made the score 3-2 at that point with Temple still ahead by one.
- Thamara Frasser Kawaratani secured the fourth and final point for Temple from the first position defeating Lahari Yelamanchili in three sets after the second set went to a tiebreak.
