PHILADELPHIA -Temple Crew will christen one of its new flagship boats this weekend prior to the Bergen Cup. "Gratson (The Professor)", which will officially be christened Apr. 29, is a gift from Temple University professor, Dr. Scott Gratson.

Gratson, who has taught at Temple for over two decades in the Lew Klein College of Media and Communication, partnered with The 9 Program, a donor program that contributes money every year to Temple Crew for the acquisition of this boat.

Gratson "The Professor", which debuted in the water for the scrimmages at Virginia and Stanford, the Murphy Cup, will appear in the Bergen Cup City Championship for the first time as a christened boat.

"It is great to see the collaboration of Athletics and Academics in this way," said Temple head coach Brian Perkins.  "We always tell our crew members to invite their professors. It's great to see Dr. Gratson step up for us in a way no other professor has before. It is really great to see the academic side of our crew members be present with us on the athletic side."

"I have seen a connection in my life with water and crew," said Gratson.  "Crew has been a very positive organization at Temple and I wanted to do something positive for the team. I am very proud to give this team a boat that is so technologically advanced"

The Christening will take place at 9:30 am at Temple's Boathouse, the East Park Canoe House, on the Schuylkill River.
