Raynor Named PhillySIDA Men's Crew Academic Performer of the Year, Tighelaar Named to All-Area Team

PHILADELPHIA - Temple men's crew senior Kenneth Raynor has been selected as the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Men's Crew Performer of the Year. He is also one of two Temple rowers among the 11 student-athletes selected to the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Men's Crew Team, with fellow senior Trent Tighelaar also being named to the All-Area Team.

A two-time Academic All-Area selection, Raynor rowed the seventh seat for the Owls' Varsity 8 this season, helping Temple capture the 2023 Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta Points Trophy. A senior engineering major, Raynor was recognized as the 2022 Temple Male Scholar of the Year, and garnered both Temple President's Honor Roll and Temple Athletic Director's Honor Roll distinctions. Earning Dean's List honors every semester since arriving at Temple, Raynor earned the prestigious 2023 Temple Ten honor as one of the ten highest GPAs at Temple. The Marondera, Zimbabwe native was a member of Temple's IRA National Championship second place V4 boat.

Tighelaar was named the Temple Male Scholar Athlete of the Year 2023, earning Dean's list in five semesters as an Owl and serving as an academic tutor for his fellow Temple athletes. The Metuchin, N.J. native was a member of 2V8 which finished second by 1.4 seconds at the Dad Vail Regatta and the 2V8boat that finished 18th nationally. A 2022 IRCA Scholar-Athlete List Honoree, Tighlelaar is a volunteer at Lewis Katz School of Medicine's Center for Metabolic Disease Research and will attend medical school in the fall.

Raynor and Tighelaar are on the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Men's Crew Team by Drexel's John Karen, Damian Lis, Nicola Loncar and Jake Miller; Elizabeth Boyle, Patrik Farkas and Trevor Fawcett; Bennett Brown of Penn; and Ed Lemanowicz from Saint Joseph's.
