Women’s Basketball Alum Theresa Govens to be Inducted into Delco Sports Hall of Fame

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's basketball alumnus, Theresa Govens (1982-86) has been announced as a member of the 2023 Delaware County Hall of Fame, as announced by the organization. She will be inducted on Sunday, June 25th at Spring County Club alongside 11 other members of the 2023 class. Tickets to the ceremony are available to purchase at https://www.pasportshofdelco.com/.

"Congratulations for Theresa Govens induction into the Delco Hall of Fame," said Head Coach Diane Ricardson. "Theresa Govens is what being a Temple Owl is all about.  She set the mold with her tenacity, endurance, and toughness. Her record of playing in 114 games of 115 is indicative of her commitment to the program. We are so proud that she represents the Cherry and White.  Go OWLS!!!"

Govens played for the Owls from 1982-86. During her four years on North Broad, the center played in 114 out of a possible 115 games. The Cherry & White finished with four straight winning seasons during her tenure, including a WNIT berth in 1982-83. Govens helped lead the program to its first two Big 5 Championships 1983 and 1986. In February of 1985, the center led Temple to a 68-61 victory over No. 11 Cheyney University, it's first ever win over a ranked team. Following her senior season, in which she scored in double figures in 21 out of a possible 28 games, Govens was named Second Team All Atlantic-10 in 1986. She was inducted into the Big 5 Hall of Fame of 1993.
 
The Chester, Pennsylvania native broke the 1000-point mark on February 4, 1986 in a 96-55 win over Cheyney. Govens ranks 5th all time in both blocks (189) and blocks per game (1.7), 7th all-time in rebounds (847) and 7th all time in rebounds per game (7.4), and 19th all-time in points (1,131).
