Hampton-Keith Announces 2023 Women’s Volleyball Schedule

7.17.23 | Women's Volleyball

PHILADELPHIA – Temple volleyball head coach Linda Hampton-Keith announced the 2023 fall schedule on Friday. The 31 regular season match-schedule includes 16 at home inside McGonigle Hall. Ten contests will be played against the six of the newest teams in the American Athletic Conference, and five against teams that made the post-season in 2022.

"We are excited for the opportunities and challenges that our 2023 schedule will bring us," said Hampton-Keith. "As we assessed where our program is and where we are working to be, it was a priority to make sure we prepared ourselves for this expanded AAC and a new schedule format we have never done before.

The obvious highlight of our non-conference schedule is when we host Penn State and other in-state rivals such as Lehigh, St. Francis (Pa.), and Villanova in an exhibition. We also made sure to challenge ourselves by playing five teams that played in post season last year and 11 teams that finished in the top third of their conference. We are ready to push ourselves to reach our full potential this season, and the first step towards that is to rise to every occasion this schedule presents to us."

Five straight home dates highlight the beginning of the 2023 season. On Aug. 19, the Owls will play an exhibition match against Villanova at home in McGonigle Hall.

Just six days later, the Cherry and White will open the regular season as they host the four-team Hilton Philadelphia at Penn's Landing Cherry and White Challenge against LIU, Iona, and Lehigh. The Owls will start the invite on Friday, Aug. 25 by taking on Iona. On Saturday, Aug. 26, Temple will face-off against LIU and then finish the tournament against Lehigh on Sunday, Aug. 27.

Next up, TU will play its first mid-week match of the season as it stays at home to play Delaware State on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

September begins the Owls' first full month of action with 10 matches on the slate. Temple will begin the month on the road for its first non-conference tournament (Sept.1-2) of 2023, traveling to the Baltimore area take on Dartmouth, Towson, and Morgan State in the Morgan State/Towson Tournament.

The Owls will give their fans two more chances to see them in home action before starting the 2023 AAC slate. For their first meeting since 2018 and the first time in 14 years, Penn State will make a trip to North Broad to take on the Owls on Sept. 8. Five days later, Princeton will visit McGonigle Hall. On Sept. 15-16, Temple will play at the Villanova Classic with matches against Sacred Heart and Saint Francis (Pa.), respectively.

The Owls will begin the AAC schedule at home with a midweek match on Sept. 20 against Tulsa. For the first-time ever, Temple and conference newcomer Florida Atlantic will play, with TU traveling to Boca Raton, Fla. in the newest conference scheduling format with back-to-back matches scheduled for Sept. 23 and 24. Five days later on Friday, Sept. 29, the Cherry and White will play host to Tulane at 6 p.m.

As the calendar moves into October, the Owls will find themselves away from North Broad for six of their nine matches. On Oct. 6 and 8, Temple will be back out on the road to take on Wichita State and AAC newcomer Texas-San Antonio. Notably, it will be the second time in program history that Owls will meet UTSA, with the first coming 23 years ago in a 3-0 victory at the Southern Cal Invitational.

On Oct. 13-14, Temple will return to McGonigle Hall with a pair AAC matches against ECU. On Wednesday Oct. 18, the Owls will look to stay perfect in their all-time series against Rider. Temple will be on the road for its longest stretch of the season against four of the AAC's newest members. Starting with two matches on October 20-21 with Charlotte, TU will then go to North Texas on Oct. 27 and Rice on Oct. 29.

In November, the Cherry and White will play five of its final seven matches at home. South Florida comes to town on Nov. 2 and 3, and just one week later, Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) will visit North Broad in a first-time match up between the two schools (Nov. 10 and 11).

Temple rounds out its portion road portion of the AAC schedule as it travels to Memphis for a pair of matches on Nov. 17 and 18. Just one day before Thanksgiving (Nov. 22), TU will play its final home match of the season, hosting SMU.
