PHILADELPHIA – On Thursday, new Temple gymnastics head coach Hilary Steele announced the hiring of Brittney Miller as assistant coach.
"I am so excited to have Brittney join our Owl Family. Brittney comes with a wealth of knowledge of college gymnastics from her time as an athlete at the University of Nebraska and from coaching at Pitt and UPenn." said Steele. "She has a strong passion for Philadelphia, the community and helping our athletes have the best experiences in and out of the gym."
Miller joins Hilary's staff after a decorated gymnastics career at the University Nebraska, Division I coaching experience with stops at the University of Penn and Pitt, and various club gymnastics stops in Pennsylvania and the New Jersey area.
The Hatboro, Pa. native recently has coached at the club level with Precision Gymnastics, Silvia's Gymnastics, and Liberty Bell Athletics where she's assisted in the collegiate recruiting process. Miller's teaching success has guided some of her former gymnasts to collegiate rosters, including West Virginia, Ursinus, Bridgeport, Ball State, and Bowling Green.
As a Division I assistant coach, Miller's most recent stop was across town at the University of Pennsylvania from 2015-2019. Prior to Penn, the former Cornhusker spent the 2015 season with the University of Pittsburgh as a volunteer assistant coach. Miller's main focus was on the floor and vault where she helped developed the choreography and routines. Concluding the 2015 season, three Panthers were named to the All-EAGL First Team on bars, beam, and floor, and four earned plaudits on the second team on bars, vault, beam, and all-around. Miller assisted in the coaching of Lindsay Offutt who advanced to the 2015 NCAA Regional on the beam after winning the EAGL championship in the same event.
Before getting into collegiate coaching, Miller found herself in club coaching at Gymknana Gymnastics in Pittsburgh, Pa. (August 2014-May 2015) and Will-Moor Gymnastics (July 2012-May 2014) in Mount Laurel, N.J., in various aspects teaching preschool/recreational level gymnasts to working with Level 7-10 athletes at Will-Moor where she formatted all-around choreography and routine placement.
As a standout Division I gymnast, who competed under her maiden name Williams, Miller competed at the University of Nebraska from 2004-09 where she helped the Huskers to the Big XII Team Championship in 2005 and 2007 and a NCAA Super Six team qualifier in 2005-07. Individually, Miller earned Big XII First Team plaudits on the bars in 2007 and 2009, All Big XII Championship Team in 2009, and the Big XII bar champion in 2009.
Miller graduated from Nebraska in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in sociology and was married to Nyere Miller in 2017. The couple have a daughter, Leah.
