This Week

Temple returns home for a non-conference match up against Norfolk State at Lincoln Financial Field. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN+. The Owls will be looking to improve to 2-0 at home this season after defeating Akron 24-21 in Week 1.

Last Week

The Owls were defeated 36-7 on the road against Rutgers in Week 2. Temple trimmed Rutgers' lead to 13-7 early in the fourth quarter, but the Scarlet Knights controlled the fourth quarter to walk away with a lopsided win in Piscataway, N.J. Rutgers running back Kyle Monangai was a difference maker, rushing for 165 yards and one touchdown. The Owls were led by SAF Tywan Francis, who tied a career-high 11 tackles in the loss, three of which were solo tackles.

Through the first three quarters, the Owls limited the Scarlet Knights to just 13 points despite several chances to build a large lead. Cornerback Ben Osueke forced a fumble in the red zone recovered by Yvandy Rigby on Temple's first defensive possession of the game. After a scoreless third quarter, the floodgates opened in the fourth quarter as Rutgers pulled away to win by 29 points. Temple freshman running back Joquez Smith was a bright spot for the Owls, rushing for 45 yards on nine attempts in his collegiate debut.

Last time vs. Norfolk State

This week's match up in Philadelphia marks the first time that Temple and Norfolk State have ever played each other. Temple's last match up against an FCS School was in Week 2 of the 2022 season versus Lafayette. The Owls won the game 30-14, as quarterback E.J. Warner threw two passing touchdowns in his Temple debut.

Temple-FCS History

Temple is 21-10 all time against Football Championship Subdivision teams. The Owls are riding a three-game winning streak against FCS teams, with the team's last loss to an FCS opponent coming in Week 1 of the 2018 season against Villanova.

Up Next

The Owls are set to wrap up non-conference play with a home match up against the No. 22 Miami Hurricanes. Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN2. Temple and Miami last met in 2005, when the Hurricanes won 34-3 at Lincoln Financial Field.
