Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Look to Build on Strong Start at Penn State
9.7.23 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple cross country teams will compete at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State University. This will be the second meet of the season following a strong showing at Temple's own Owls XC Invitational. The women's race will begin at 9:00 am, with the men beginning at 9:45.
Previewing the Owls
> Both teams placed second in the Owls XC Invite.
> Elsa Chan and Elvira Bredin starred for Temple, finishing second and third, respectively. Chan finished just .3 seconds behind first place, while Dominyka Petraskaite earned ninth place.
> Liem Chot and Graham Thomas led the pack with top five finishes. Zack Marmol also impressed, finishing eighth overall.
The Field
> Seven teams will be running at the meet on the women's side. Buffalo, Duquesne, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Temple West Virginia, and Youngstown State. West Virginia will not compete in the men's race.
> Last season, the women competed at Penn State twice. First in the Penn State National Open, and again in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
> The men also competed at Penn State twice. First with a sixth place finish at the Penn State National Open, and second finished 10th out of 26 teams at NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
Quotable: Assistant Coach Charlotte Imer
"Coming off our home meet last week which was a shorter-style course, I'm excited to see where our teams are at over the longer, more traditional cross country distances. Tomorrow presents an opportunity for both the men and women to get better and compete against other regionally ranked teams in the Mid-Atlantic. It's still early in the season, but both squads are ready to put their early season fitness to the test!"
