Owls' Volleyball Falls to No. 12 Penn State in Liacouras Center

PHILADELPHIA – In the first-ever match at The Liacouras Center, the Temple Owls fell to the No. 12 Penn State on Friday night in three sets, 25-9, 25-15, 27-25, in front of 2,468 in attendance, the second most in program history.
The Owls fall to 6-2 overall while the Nittany Lions improved to 4-2 overall on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions out hit the Cherry and White by the margin of .314 to .051. The duo of Zoe Weatherington and Camryn Hannah combined for 21 kills in the victory.
- Service aces played a big part in the win for No. 12 Penn State as they out paced Temple by the tune of 8-2.
- The bigger PSU block controlled Temple's hitters as they recorded nine team blocks, while Weatherington led players in the match with five total blocks.
- Temple graduate transfers combo of Avery Luoma and Olivia Vance led the Temple offense with six kills apiece.
Set 1 (TU 9, PSU 25)
- Penn State got out of the block early, taking a quick 8-1 lead in the set before Temple was forced to call timeout. During the run, Temple's hitters tallied five attack errors.
- The Owls never recovered as the Nittany Lions closed out the set, scoring on 10 of the final 12 points. Hannah earned three of her set-high five kills down the stretch.
Set 2 (TU 15, PSU 25)
- A game Cherry and White team was game in set two against the Nittany Lions in set two as they founded themselves trailing by a point (7-6). Penn State ran off five consecutive points by back-to-back errors hitting errors on Temple and three aces from Allie Holland, including back-to-back scores to push the lead to seven.
- PSU's Gillian Grimes sealed the set win at the service line, scoring on five straight serves, with help from Weatherington's three kills.
Set 3 (TU 25, PSU 27)
- The Owls tested the Lions in the final set as there were eight tie scores and six lead changes.
- Olivia Vance had a productive third set for Temple as she collected four kills on nine total attacks for a .333 hitting percentage.
- With the score at 20-16, Temple started to chip away at the five-point Lion's lead as freshman setter Ava Blascziek ran off back-to-back aces and then Vance connected on back-to-back kills, tying the set at 20-20.
- The Owls took their first lead of set three (21-20) with Blascziek hooking up with sophomore middle blocker Samantha Jo Mikosky for her only kill in the final set.
- Consecutive kills by the PSU's Taylor Trammel and Angelina Starck pushed the visitor's advantage to 23-21, but yet again the Owls showed resilience against the Lions, coming back to tie the score (23-23) with the assistance of a Avery Luoma's sixth kill of the match.
- The two teams traded blows in the final points of the period, but it was Penn State earning the set victory.
