No. 11 Owls Fencing To Host Day 1 of the Two-Day Philadelphia Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 11 Temple fencing team will host the first day of the Philadelphia Invitational on Friday, Jan. 19 in the Temple Pavilion against No. 1 Princeton, UC San Diego, No. 2 (DII) Johns Hopkins, and North Carolina. The four-round first day will begin at 3:00 p.m. ET.  Just two days later, starting at 8:30 a.m. ET,  Temple will return to action at the TSE Center at the University of Pennsylvania. The Owls are set to compete on the second day against No. 3 Columbia, No. 7 Penn, and No. 12 Yale.
 
Last weekend at Penn State, Temple went 2-3, defeating Haverford by the score of 24-3 to begin the day, but lost consecutive matches against Columbia (16-10) and Yale (13-14). The Owls rebounded to knock off Carolina, 17-8, but fell, 10-17 in the day's finale against Penn State.
 
Anna Novoseltseva  led all foilists last weekend with six wins, going 6-4. Epeeist Margherita Calderaro led her squad with a 6-5 record. Fellow epeeist Grace Smith (6-7) also added six wins on the day.  In sabre, Alexandra Weinberg led the parliament with a 7-4 record. Other standouts included Arwen Gormley who put in an excellent performance, going 6-1 on the day. Lauren Johnson had a strong showing scoring a 5-2 record.

The Cherry and White will travel to Northwestern on Feb. 3-4 to compete at the Northwestern Duals in Evanston, Ill.
