1.23.24 | General, Cheerleading, Diamond Gems
ORLANDO – The Temple Spirit Squad had a great showing at the recent 2024 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championships held at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla. The weekend was highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the
Game Day Routine category from the Diamond Gems, along with a fourth-place finish in the All-Girl Game Day Routine category from the Temple Cheerleaders.
The fourth-place finish for their Game Day Routine marked the Diamond Gems' highest finish in the program's history in this category. It also marked their sixth Top 10 finish in this category. The Diamond Gems finished ahead of schools such as Iowa, Nebraska, Alabama, and North Carolina. In addition to their strong showing in the Game Day category, the Cherry and White competed in the Hip-Hop and Pom categories, just missing Hip-Hop finals by one point behind Washington State.
"To be ranked fourth amongst college programs from across the country is an incredible honor and a tremendous accomplishment," said Jennifer Keller, Director of Spirit Programs and Head Diamond Gems Coach. "The talent showcased at Nationals just keeps getting better and better each year and our Owls took that stage, representing Temple University and the vision and values of our athletics department with pride and passion."
With their fourth-place finish in the All-Girl Game Day Routine category, the Temple Cheerleaders continued to build on their foundation of success. They are the only program in the country to have finished in the Top Five of this category every year since the category's inception seven years ago. The Owls beat out powerhouse schools such as UNLV and New Mexico for the fourth-place finish. In addition, the team performed three deduction-free routines throughout the championships, which is a first for the program.
"I'm so proud of how the team represented themselves and Temple University this year at Nationals," said Jenna Komosinski, Head Cheerleading Coach. "Over 50% of the team are first-year athletes which presented a unique challenge in the extremely competitive All-Girl division we compete in. The athletes pushed themselves to learn and master new skills in such a short period of time. It's truly remarkable to see the growth from tryouts to now."
