No. 20 Field Hockey Prepares For a Pair of Weekend Games

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 20 Temple field hockey team prepares for a pair of games this week, hosting BIG EAST foe Georgetown on Friday, October 18 at 1:00 p.m. before traveling to Easton, Pa. for a non-conference contest against Lafayette on Sunday, October 20 at 1:00 p.m.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
  • No. 20 Temple enters the game 8-4 overall and has a 3-1 record in the BIG EAST. The Owls have won six games in a row.
  • TU is ranked No. 20 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I poll for the second consecutive week.
  • Mathea Lassalle and Isabella Ospitale both were recognized on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Lassalle scored the lone goal of the game in Temple's 1-0 win against Providence on October 11. In the game against the Friars, Ospitale recorded her third shutout, making three saves.
  • Temple has four players with double digit points this season. Tess Muller and Peyton Rieger each have 13 points on the strength of five goals and three assists apiece. Devin Kinzel has 12 points, scoring six goals. Alizé Maes also has 12 points with four goals and four helpers.
  • The Owls have seven different players score game-winning goals this season.
  • Ospitale leads the conference in goals against average and save percentage.
 
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
  • The Hoyas are 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the BIG EAST. They are coming off a 3-1 setback against Richmond on Sunday.
  • Sophie Towne leads GU in both goals and points with three and eight, respectively. Sydney Yodh has two goals and three assists.
  • Ella Fahey has played the majority of minutes in cage this season, posting a 3.03 goals against average and a .727 save percentage.
  • Christy Banks is in her sixth season as the head coach of Georgetown. She mentored the team to double digit wins in both 2018 and 2021.

Friday is the 17th all-time game between Temple and Georgetown with the Owls holding a 11-5 series record.
 
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
  • The Leopards are 8-5 overall and have a 3-1 record in the Patriot League. They are coming off a tough 1-0 loss against No. 15 UMass on Sunday, conceding the only goal of the contest in the fourth quarter.
  • It is a three-pronged offensive attack for Lafayette, led by Lineke Spaans with six goals and four assists for 16 points. Alex Darrah also has six goals and Stella Malinowski has 12 points, posting four goals and four dimes.
  • Raffi Fragomeni has played all but five minutes in goal this season and leads the Patriot League with a 1.22 goals against average.
  • Jennifer Stone is in her 12th season as the head coach of the Leopards. She has guided the team to 10 or more wins in three of the last five seasons.

Temple holds a 24-12-2 record against Lafayette and has won two in a row in the series.
