Volleyball Preps for AAC Matches Versus Texas Pair

PHILADELPHIA – Temple volleyball returns McGonigle Hall for this Friday, Oct. 25 and Sunday, Oct. 27 to continue American Athletic Conference play against UTSA and Rice. On Friday, the Owls will face off against the Roadrunners for a 6 p.m. first serve. Two days later, Temple will compete against Rice in a 1 p.m. match. Both matches will be available on ESPN+.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
- Last timeout, freshman Sydney Jones led the Owls with her seventh double-double of the season where she had a match-high 24 kills and 11 digs. The Owls improved to 10-12 overall on the season with the 27-26, 26-24, 22-25, 25-18 win. Graduate student Taylor Davenport poured in 19 kills, leaving her four shy of tying for No. 7 all-time in school history and sophomore Lexi Yoza dished out 52 assists, one shy of her career-high.
- Davenport leads the AAC this season in three offensive categories, including points (375.6), points per set (4.94), and kills (323). The Columbia, S.C. native also is second with 4.25 kills per set.
- As a first-year, Jones is putting herself in the top offensive players in the conference. The Havertown, Pa. native is third in aces per set with .43, third with 3.54 kills per set, seventh with 223 kills, three with 4.08 points per set, and seventh with 257 total points.
- In conference matches, the Owls are ranked second with 2.20 blocks per set with senior Chelci Banks ranked eighth in the AAC, averaging 1.00 blocks per set and ranks first with 12 solo blocks.
- The Roadrunners enter the weekend 7-14 overall, 1-7 in conference play, one place behind Temple holding down 12th in the American Athletic Conference.
- UTSA's offense is led by Mia Soerensen's 207 kills and Sokol's 356 assists. Soerensen also holds down the other side of the net with 73 blocks, while Aleah Giroux has provided 281 digs on the season.
- The Roadrunners come out of the weekend 1-1 with a loss to Tulsa and a win against UAB. Starting the weekend off strong with a 3-0 win over the Blazers in their first conference win of the season. Two sophomores led the team on each side of the net with Peyton Turner reaching 15 digs and Bailey knocking down 12 kills. Sunday saw a flipped result as UTSA lost in three sets to the Golden Hurricane. The newcomers continue to contribute for the Roadrunners as Morgen Durgens, a freshman, dished out 13 assists on the night.
- The Owls won the first meeting of the two teams in a five-set match in Texas. This will be the first match in McGonigle hall between the two teams.
- Rice stands in second place in the American Athletic Conference come and will into the weekend 11-6 overall, 6-2 in conference. They will face Tulane on Friday before their match with the Owls.
- Cindy Tchouangwa and Samarah Hill lead the Rice offense with 195 and 173 kills, respectively. Freshman setter, Savannah Skopal, commands the assist column with 549. Their net is protected by Lademi Ogunlana and Kaitlyn Knobbe each with 45+ blocks.
- Rice dropped their second straight conference game after a 0-3 loss to Fla. Atlantic. The offense could not get started, as only one Rice player registered double-digit kills (Knobbe, 14). Skopal continued to provide with 22 assists on the night.
- The Cherry and White are tied in the series with Rice, 1-1. Their first meeting took place in 1997. This will only be the second time Temple has faced Rice since they joined the AAC.
